The Jack-O-Lantern got it's start from an Irish myth about a man named "Stingy Jack". However, the first Jack-O-Lantern was not made from a pumpkin but rather the Irish used turnips, gords, and potatoes. When the Irish came to America they found that these were not readily available so they carried on their tradition of carving faces using pumpkins.

Today this tradition lives on in many homes across the country. It has become a family activity enjoyed by kids (and adults) of all ages. In fact, they have pumpkin carving contests across the world.
